Cedar Point, North Carolina
In 1713, King George III issued a land grant of 2080 acres located in Western Carteret County known as Cedar Point to Thomas Lee of Virginia. In 1765, 1040 acres of the land grant were deeded to William Hill, of Carteret County. In 1788, William Borden of Carteret County acquired the remaining 1040 acres.
George Noble Ennett of New River married Lucretia Borden, daughter of William Borden, V, and settled on the Borden estate in the late 1800’s. The Ennett family owned much of the eastern half of Cedar Point for over 100 years.
The western half of Cedar Point passed through four generations of Hills family. The famous Octagon House, built by Edward Hill, is located in this area. It was finished in 1859 on the Hill Plantation. Built by shipwrights, It has proven its durability surviving the test of time.
Through the years, Cedar Point has remained a peaceful little town nestled in the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Within our vibrant community you will find impeccable views of Bogue Sound, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and the White Oak River.

Swansboro, a quaint, charming community, is located at the mouth of the White Oak River, which joins the Atlantic Ocean and flows past the beautiful beaches of Bear Island.
This “Friendly City by the Sea” offers a historic downtown district on the water, and an opportunity to enjoy the community’s heritage while shopping in unique village shops alive with restaurants, boutiques, gift shops, and waterside parks.
The Arts by the Sea Festival, the Mullet Festival, Candlelight Shopping, the Christmas Flotilla, annual Oyster Roast, an annual Pig Cook-Off, the Blue Water Fishing Tournament, the King Mackerel Tournament, and the Speckled Trout Tournament are a few of the exciting and fun things to do in Swansboro. In addition to this fun filled calendar of events there is the beach, fishing, camping, boating and golfing nearby.
Settlers first came to Swansboro around 1730, founding a community on the site of an Algonkian Indian village at the mouth of the White Oak River. The colonial port town of Swansborough was incorporated in 1783 – named in honor of Samuel Swann, who had been speaker of the North Carolina House of Commons. The community’s early prosperity was based on shipbuilding, and its most famous shipbuilder was Captain Otway Burns. Burns, whose exploits as commander of the privateer vessel Snapdragon brought early attention to Swansboro, was also the builder of the Prometheus, the first steamboat constructed in North Carolina.
Swansboro is located in Onslow County, and began experiencing its economic boost from the nearby establishment of Camp Lejeune, one of the U.S. Marine Corps’ largest bases., and from the growth of coastal tourism – trends that continue today.
